Chilean Prog Ensemble AISLES Release New Live EP

“Live from Estudio del Sur”, a mini-album recorded live, is available on CD and digital platforms

“Live from Estudio del Sur” is Aisles’ latest release. The EP was recorded at Estudio del Sur, and includes newly done versions of the songs “Clouds Motion”, “Shallow and Daft”, “Still Alive” and “Club Hawaii”. Germán Vergara, guitarist, describes it as “a blend between some of earliest and some of our newest compositions, all in the same set, with the current Aisles sound. 'Clouds Motion' is one of the first songs we recorded as a band. We also made a new version of 'Shallow and Daft, where we invited the singer Catalina Blanco from the band Téfiret. The last two tracks, 'Still Alive' and 'Club Hawaii', capture the hopeless atmosphere of our concept album 'Hawaii' and reflect what the band is doing nowadays. People will like the sound on the EP as the songs feel more organic and heavier that on the albums.”

Also, these songs were a series of live sessions filmed by director Bernardo Quesney, who has also worked with Chilean artists Gepe, Javiera Mena and Colombina Parra, among others.

“Live from Estudio del Sur” is available on a limited edition CD and on digital platforms:

In 2009, their second album, “In Sudden Walks”, was nominated for Best Foreign Record in the Italian Prog Awards and the group was invited to open the 11th Progressive Rock Festival Crescendo in France. Their third album, “4:45 AM” (2013) was widely acclaimed worldwide and was chosen among the best albums of that year in a number of specialized publications. “Hawaii” (July, 2016), their fourth studio album was called a “masterpiece” and named one of the albums of the year by media outlets such as Prog (England), Neoprog (France), Raw Ramp (England) and Chile's premiere rock magazine, Rockaxis. The band also toured Europe, Mexico and the United States for the first time in their career. Currently, the band is working on their fifth studio album, to be released in 2019, which will include songs described as “charged with complex emotions and with a more modern sound”.

Prog Ensemble 41POINT9 Premieres Second Video "These Four Lands" From Forthcoming Album "Mr. Astute Trousers"

“In my mind this is a band that melds two of my favorite things about music; Pop sensibility and progressive complexity. ” - Ted Leonard – Spocks Beard, Enchant

Prog ensemble 41POINT9 is premiering their second video titled “These Four Lands”  from their forthcoming album “Mr. Astute Trousers” on Sonic Perspectives! The band has two albums being released internationally on September 21, 2018. One is the brand-new sophomore release “Mr. Astute Trousers” and the other is a remixed and remastered version of their debut album “Still Looking For Answers.” The band has been busy creating a series of high quality concept videos to help get word about the album out.

Watch 41POINT9's “These Four Lands” video here: https://www.sonicperspectives.com/news/41point9-premieres-these-four-lands-video/ ;

Hammer meets anvil and the sparks fly. In the process, a sword is made stronger than it could have been before. The same thing happened back in 1995 when bassist/songwriter/producer Bob Madsen met guitarist/songwriter/singer Brian Cline in the North Bay Area of California. Brian and Bob began working together on a few tunes written by Bob and began a lifelong “bromance.” In Brian, Bob had found the perfect voice for his muse. The only problem was Brian's insistence on editing Bob's lyrics (a process referred to as “lyrical evisceration”). (Of course, the real problem is that almost without exception Bob has had to admit that Brian's edits make the songs better.)

After nearly a decade of friendship the two decided to start a band together. That band is 41POINT9 and is known for being a prog rock band, but Bob and Brian would probably argue that point with you. “We don't care about styles or subjects or how the song will be classified. We start out with an idea and let the idea dictate where the song will lead. We usually write the lyrics first and then add the music in order to further the concept of the song. As such, we are able to bring a diverse range of musical influences to bear, like a painter would with many pigments and brushes. We actually create the songs with little to no regard for how we would or even could perform them live.” Bob continues, “We might combine Stravinsky strings with funk bass and heavy metal guitars. Hip-hop or EDM production styles might meet new wave synths and storytelling lyrics that would be at home on a classic country album. We simply don't care as long as the song is good.”

“Notice we didn't mention Prog?” Brian adds, “We absolutely love progressive music; however, we don't stop there. We are in the pursuit of the different. Shouldn't progressive music progress? Why apply the same stylistic norms that have been used since the '70s and still call it progressive? That's not progressive - that's stagnant.”

“Don't get us wrong,” chimes in Bob, “we are writing songs with a very strong pop sensibility and we feel they are eminently listenable; we just don't feel the pressure to stay in one genre or tonality. It just doesn't matter as long as it serves the song.”

In support of the “Mr. Astute Trousers” album release, 41POINT9 is preparing to tour later in the year if all goes well. “The difficulty in touring is that we have been having a real problem finding a drummer for the band,” Bob concludes. “All of the ones we have auditioned have spontaneously combusted. I guess that's what we get for using the same talent agency as Spinal Tap.”

Soft Machine Announce New Album Hidden Details & World Tour Dates, with First North American Dates Since 1974!

NYC - In support of their forthcoming new album, British music legends Soft Machine will embark on their first North American tour since 1974 in October 2018, followed by the second North-American leg of the tour in January/February 2019. In concert, their set list will include material from all parts of the band's repertoire from 1970 onwards, but this is emphatically not a nostalgia act resting on its laurels. Last weekend Soft Machine played their first two shows in North America since 1974 (it was in 1974 they toured USA and Canada during the Bundles/Allan Holdsworth era). Both shows, at the Montreal Jazz Festival and Quebec City, were exceptionally well received by the enthusiastic audience and local press.

Hidden Details is a new studio album of Soft Machine, recorded at the late great Jon Hiseman's Temple Studio in Surrey, England, last December 2017, and it will be released in September 2018 on MoonJune Records (North America; on CD and HD Download), on John Etheridge's Dyan Records (UK/Europe on CD, and iTunes), and on Vivid Records (Japan), exactly 50 years since the release of the band's 1968 debut album The Soft Machine. Limited and highly collectible vinyl edition of only 200 coloured vinyl (orange, blue and tour edition orange & blue marbled) will be released on the Dutch label Tonefloat, on September 8, 2018.

“'Hidden Details' is very much the product of an active, contemporary sounding outfit striking out with its own agenda. Though informed by the past, the music here is neither weighed down nor beholden to it. Animated with the same ineffable and inquisitive spirit that has always made this group throughout its fifty years such a compelling experience, it’' good to have a new Soft Machine with us in 2018. The yearning tenderness of 'Heart Off Guard' and the come-down reveries of 'Broken Hill' and 'Drifting White' showcase the more intimate aspects of Soft Machine's personality while in contrast, 'One Glove' gives the more pugilistic side of John Etheridge's playing an outing. The terse angularities of the title track and 'Life on Bridges' highlight a fearless disposition, as does the buzzsaw interplay heard during 'Ground Lift' and 'Flight of the Jett,' both featuring Roy Babbington's decisive interventions. The surging lyricism of 'Fourteen Hour Dream' flirts with an almost popish sensibility, underscoring the sense that this is a quartet that is fundamentally at ease with itself. The return of what some older fans of the band have called 'cosmic tinkles’'– the appearance of layers of cyclical electric piano motifs – is especially welcome. Their brief manifestation on 'The Man Who Waved at Trains' and Third-era, 'Out-Bloody-Rageous,' both stone-cold Mike Ratledge-composed classics, adds an extra spacey dimension to the overall sound. Travis' use of looping technology with his flutes creates its own beguiling world and can be heard to powerful effect on the beautiful and enigmatic 'Breathe,' where his hovering notes are underpinned by Marshall's oblique yet atmospheric percussion.” - Sid Smith

Soft Machine is a legend and an institution of British music, a band who included Robert Wyatt, Daevid Allen, Mike Ratledge, Kevin Ayers, Andy Summers (later of The Police), Hugh Hopper, Elton Dean, Roy Babbington, John Marshall, Karl Jenkins, Allan Holdsworth, John Etheridge, Percy Jones, Rick Sanders, Dave McRae and Jack Bruce among others (Jimi Hendrix briefly jammed with the band in 1968!). Since its creation in 1966, this band pioneered Psychedelic and Progressive Rock, led the 'Canterbury' trend, pioneered jazz-rock, and then guitar-led fusion (launching the guitar god Allan Holdsworth in 1974), influenced generations of musicians. Disbanded in 1978, recreated in few occasions in 1981 and 1984, the band resurfaces in 1999 under the name of Soft Ware. Much was said about this band with a very complex intriguing history of constant personal changes during the 1966-1978 period. The band resurrected in 1999 under the name of Soft Ware, then as Soft Works 2002-2004 and Soft Machine Legacy 2004-2015. In December 2015, it was confirmed that the band had dropped the “Legacy” tag from their name, as the band featured three of the group's 1970s era members –  guitarist John Etheridge, drummer John Marshall and bassist Roy Babbington (from the seminal 1976's album Softs), in addition to flute and sax player Theo Travis – returning to the original name from 2015, and performing numerous concerts all around Europe, South America and Japan.

Light Freedom Revival Releases Second Album 'Truthonomy' Feat. Jamie Glaser, Billy Sherwood and Oliver Wakeman

VANCOUVER BC - John Vehadija has reunited with his cast of high class musicians for ‘Truthonomy’, the new album by Light Freedom Revival, which is released on July 3rd, 2018.

Along the bright sounds of Jamie Glaser’s acoustic guitar, and Vehadija’s ethereal vocals, Billy Sherwood returns for the rhythm section (Drums and Bass), as well as Oliver Wakeman (piano and keyboards) and Marisa Frantz (Harmony Vocals). Eric Gillette also joins in the project by providing additional electric guitar as well as mixing and mastering.

This talented team was called up by Vehadija once again to help him express his ideas in the form of a new concept album that offers new insights in his own spiritual journey and the science of Truthonomy.

John Vehadija believes in the existence of an absolute truth and he relied on his spiritual knowledge to create a story of soul awakening, for the seeker to rediscover Creation as a living being self aware of itself. Truthonomy is defined to represent a light truth economy in an open universe system which develops society with divine tunnel visions of how to consciously manifest one’s destiny.

“It’s hard to explain how this album came to be because it was totally unplanned, but it’s partially based on my travels to major capitals on different continents, and so I tried to create a unified world perception beyond the countries we live in to reach a standard of a new kind of planetary civilization. As I was writing the songs,” said Vehadija, “I realized it is a concept album of someone moving through many parallel negative timelines, constantly searching for the truth, trying to find the original one that had once been his real home, a place from where it’s safe to project into the future and reality will not anti respond to soul impulse calculations. I’m proud of the way it came out, it represents almost a new style of music, you can love it or hate it, but you cannot dismiss it. I felt it was my soul mission to express this for humanity. I didn’t want to create dogma, I wanted to create freedom and awareness. I wanted it to be like a self reflective mirror for the soul. In my opinion we should all deal with the truth as we understand it, and not just put it aside it and ignore it forever.”

Jamie Glaser had this to say about the record: “‘Truthonomy’ is one of the most interesting projects I have gotten a chance to work on in recent memory. John is great to make music with; he’s a super talented man and I appreciated his positivity; he always makes sure to write stories in both words and music that keep the listener spiritually uplifted and sonically on an adventure. He gave me a lot of freedom to create my parts and it was always a great and fun challenge.”

“As I finished all bases and drums I realized it all sounded very cool!” said Billy Sherwood “I like the general feel for all the music, it’s a bit more simplified and earthy than the last CD! It was a fun record to make and I’m happy with the way it came out.”

Oliver Wakeman tells us: “I’m glad John was happy with the keyboard performances I recorded for his new album... there were a couple of tracks, like ‘Emma’ and ‘Lies No More’, which in particular I really enjoyed playing on. Working on John’s album also gave me the opportunity to use some new keyboard sounds courtesy of IK Multimedia as well as recording using my Dexibell piano. It’s always fun to play on a project with talented musicians and John has gathered a bunch of great artists to bring his vision to life. I’m pleased he asked me to be a part of it.”

Marisa Frantz who did the harmonies for the whole album, shares her thoughts about the song “Truthonomy” which clocks at just over sixteen minutes: “It’s a truly epic song, captivating from beginning to end! It has so many beautiful melodies which were fun to put together. I had to do a variety of backgrounds including lyrical harmonies as well as other vocal textures and dynamics. I also wanted to give it space to breathe in spots. It was a pleasure working on this project for John.”

“I have never seen a more beautiful thought provoking cover” Vehadija tells us about the CD artwork provided again by the international visual artist Ed Unitsky. “I’m very happy about this new album and that John contacted me again to create the cover!” said Unitsky.

Intended to be a true work of art, something that both prog audiences and music lovers in general will be very satisfied with, ‘Truthonomy’ is available in CD Digipack and MP3 Format starting July 3rd on lightfreedomrevival.com as well as Amazon, iTunes, Spotify and other major distributors.

For a limited time, ‘Truthonomy’ is also available in a ‘High Definition Audio’ Crystal USB format with bonus tracks on lightfreedomrevival.com

G'ole! FIFA's Official Film of the 1982 World Cup Feat. Music by Rick Wakeman to be Released on CD/DVD & Limited Edition Boxed Set

London - Now available for pre-order, G'ole! FIFA's official film of the 1982 World Cup featuring music by Rick Wakeman on CD/DVD & Limited Edition Boxed Set (which includes the unreleased bonus soundtrack CD Hero). This is the next in the highly successful deluxe edition series of Rick Waleman's classic albums.

Says Rick, “Another soundtrack album and not bad as soundtrack albums go. It's a shame DVD wasn't about at the time as it would have made a nice sporting DVD release.”

Narrated by Sean Connery, with music by Rick Wakeman, G'ole! captures the highly charged atmosphere of those few weeks in Spain, when the World's top 24 teams gathered to do battle.

It features…Italy winning despite half their squad being suspended for match fixing. Germany and Austria fixing their result to eliminate Algeria. A Kuwaiti Sheik invading the pitch and successfully getting a goal over turned. The Germany v France Semi Final which featured the worst foul in World Cup history, when Germany’s goalie Schumacher broke Patrick Battison's jaw. Schumacher then helped Germany beat France in the first ever penalty shoot out. 17 year old Maradona's arrival on the international scene – then getting sent off for kicking a Brazilian in the nuts. Northern Ireland beating hosts Spain (that goal from Trainspotting). And England getting knocked out despite not losing a game. It was an amazing tournament.

Not only that, we get to see New Zealand's players getting a half time bollocking and topless girls on the beaches. This is FIFA after all.

Age 23 Sean Connery played for Bonnyrig Rose FC. Sir Matt Busby was impressed by his fellow Scot, offering him a £25-a-week contract at Old Trafford. “I really wanted to accept because I loved football,” recalled Connery. “But I realised that a top-class footballer could be over the hill by the age of 30, and I was already 23. I decided to become an actor and it turned out to be one of my more intelligent moves.”

“G'ole! finds Wakeman experimenting again with the staccato rhythms and percussion of "White Rock," and overlaying this with the broad synth strokes that he developed on 'Rhapsodies.” - All Music Guide
