Prog Duo Days Between Stations Release New Video “Witness the End of the World” Featuring Pink Floyd Vocalist Durga McBroom & Billy Sherwood

Los Angeles based progressive rock duo Days Between Stations have released a music video for their song “Witness the End of the World” featuring special guest lead vocalist Durga McBroom, who is best known for her work with Pink Floyd. The song was originally released in 2020 on their album “Giants” but due to the pandemic, the music video production was delayed, which turned out to be an unfortunately apt circumstance given the lyrics.

Durga: “Working with Billy Sherwood producing my vocal session was magic. He was very precise; in fact, he actually reminded me of working with David Gilmour. A haunting, timely tune. I’m very proud to be singing on it. As for the video, my Goth Angel is a pretty striking look. It also honors my Native American heritage.”

Sepand: “I remember hearing this song that Oscar had written. I’m always turned on to songs that become your companion through life, its notes and meaning altering with you through your path in life. When you feel the song is one thing it morphs into another. We filmed this video during the end of COVID... boy did it feel like the end of the world. I feel the apocalyptic imagery was inspired by how society and friends and family were all rattled by this disease.”

Oscar: “It’s no secret to anyone who’s followed the band for a while that we sometimes focus on dark topics. Sometimes even before any lyrics are written, the mood of the piece will sort of suggest an image or a mood. I tend to draw a lot of inspiration from - and crib titles from - books and films. So, I had written a waltz that I was calling ‘End of the World Waltz,’ inspired by Anthony Burgess’ ‘The End of the World News.’ I had started writing some lyrics for it, with a vaguely apocalyptic theme indirectly dealing with the many ways we seem to make the world hell for ourselves and other species, and then when my cat Matisse was diagnosed with cancer I had rewritten the lyric with the line ‘it’s not the end of the world,’ which was what a not very sympathetic non-cat person had told me at the time, and I was thinking about how subjective that is and how what seems trivial to somebody can literally feel like the end of the world to someone else. In any case, I had never finished the lyrics, so when we chose to work on the piece together with Billy Sherwood for Giants, we rewrote the lyrics together and added a lot of the Greco-mythical material that tied it in with the rest of the album. It’s interesting to work on lyrics as a trio. You would think it would be overly analytical and dry, but at least part of the time we managed to all three of us enter a sort of flow state where the ideas just seemed to, well, flow.”

“Shadows In A Jar” is the sixth studio album, and next installment of the Life on Mars series from Earl Kayoss and an array of talent including Fernando Perdomo. Kayoss and Perdomo have been working for 8 years to deliver this remarkable project.

Earl Kayoss, a prolific songwriter, wrote all of the songs on the album. Joining Kayoss and Fernando Perdomo on the album are Billy Sherwood (Yes) and Denny Seiwell (McCartney and Wings). Each one of them are very well known in their own right and have extensive credits.

Mastered by Grammy award winning engineer Zach Ziskin, who has numerous credits and awards. The CD includes a booklet featuring all of the lyrics, art and musicians’ credits.

On July 15, 2021, progressive rock project exo-X-xeno launches its anticipated second single filled with fluid proggy riffs and elevated harmonic vocals that break through the stratosphere, called “Reaching for Beyond.” This epic song release, along with a companion conceptual promo video, continues the band’s musical journey with a polychromatic tapestry of celestial rock sounds.

Mike Tiano to Release Tuneful Prog Album “Creétisvan” Featuring Billy Sherwood, David Sancious, Randy George and More – March 12

Mixed by Steve Smith (Supertramp, Heart, Cheap Trick)

Mike Tiano is known for his bringing Yes into the Internet age. After helming one of the first online fanzines Notes From the Edge Mike created their official web site YesWorld, and for well over a decade was their web site manager.

Mike is also a musician and songwriter in his own right, now releasing “Creétisvan” which he characterizes as his life’s work and is informally calling the album his “audiobiography”. As he explains, “This album is culled from many of my best compositions, written throughout my adulthood. I’ve rarely performed these, and had only recently produced them.”

What is evident is Mike’s being inspired by the likes of the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Rush, and of course Yes. “The tunes are in the vein of early progressive rock: lots of heart along with catchy melodies, recurring themes, sonic instrumental flights, shifting dynamics, and the kind of tuneful content which is sorely missing in today’s popular musical scene. Many who miss ‘classic’ rock in general will find much to enjoy here.” Mike’s influences are apparent throughout the album, including the Zeppelin-esque “Automaton”; the Yes-like “Triad”; the Beatles-inspired “(Because) You Win”; the surprising Buffalo Springfield vibe of “A Natural”; and Mike’s prog influences in general on the epic “Emerge Triumphant”, which features a live orchestra.

Every track was written and arranged by Mike, who is lead vocalist and handles the lion’s share of the guitar work. While he also produced ten of the twelve tracks the remaining two were handled by Yes member Billy Sherwood on “Different Drummer” while the instrumental “Dance of the Little Guys” is the work of Randy George, bassist for the Neal Morse Band. Both musicians perform on those respective songs.

Other accomplished musicians gracing “Creétisvan” include David Sancious (Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, Jon Anderson’s album “Animation”); keyboard wizard and orchestrator Jonathan Sindelman (Keith Emerson Band, The Magic Band/Captain Beefheart); guitarist Steve McKnight (Cry Wolf, GayC/DC); keyboardist Rick Daugherty (the reformed Flash); vocalist Joanne Perica; and a host of notable Seattle-area talents.

Mike attributes the album’s “exquisite mix” to Grammy winner Steve Smith. Steve began his career as assistant engineer on Stevie Wonder’s “Songs in the Key of Life” and was a member of legendary Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick’s production team for Supertramp’s “Even in the Quietest Moments”, where Steve participated on the hit “Give a Little Bit”. Steve would go on to apply his talents on projects for Heart, Cheap Trick, Donna Summer, Garth Brooks, and video game orchestrations for Michael Giacchino to name a very few.

But what the heck is Creétisvan? When he was young Mike aspired to be a cartoonist; in his late teens and early 20s he created spacey cartoon collages. To title this style of art he used a word unique to his own history—one that you won’t find in a dictionary (yet). Mike would use “Creetisvan” (no accent over the second ‘e’) for that art and later for his musical performances, and when he decided to retain it for the title of the album he added that accent to include the word “create”—denoting his devotion to artistry and creativity. Bringing his artistic journey full circle some of the original artwork he created as a young adult will be found on the inside cover.

Prog Duo Days Between Stations to Release New Album “GIANTS” Feat. Billy Sherwood, Colin Moulding and Durga McBroom!

Los Angeles - Prog duo Days Between Stations (DBS) is releasing their highly anticipated 3rd album titled “GIANTS” which features guest appearances by legendary XTC member Colin Moulding, Billy Sherwood of YES and backing vocalist for Pink Floyd Durga McBroom on Sept. 21, 2020!

Although firmly rooted in the progressive rock genre, the new DBS album “GIANTS” ventures into more rock-oriented material. Says guitarist Sepand Samzadeh, “'GIANTS' really brings the band through areas that we have not ventured before. Our debut album was instrumental, cinematic, atmospheric, experimental and more contemporary in vision and sound. The sophomore album had both elements with a classic prog sound. GIANTS is more aggressive, unabashed and raw. It is designed to sound as us as a 4 piece band. Billy had more creative and producer input and really pushed us to play better, faster, take more chances and recorded us in fluid/ unrepressed state of mind”

Says Sherwood, “I love the creativity of Sepand and Oscar. The new record speaks to that spirit of imagination they both share. I'm honored to be a part of it and explore new musical horizons with them and I'm very proud of the new record we've made... Days Between Stations is a musical force to be reckoned with indeed. I'm very excited for people to hear this new record… We worked very hard to push our own envelopes and try to come up with something very unique and adventurous!”

Founded in 2003 by guitarist Sepand Samzadeh and keyboardist Oscar Fuentes, the duo named themselves after the cult novel by Steve Erickson and have devoted themselves to, as they say, Art Rock and Post Prog - music that reflects their varied influences, as well as shared disregard for stylistic boundaries.

The genesis of Days Between Stations new album “GIANTS” came about when, “My father passed away shortly after we released the last album, 'In Extremis,'” Oscar explains. “He suffered from Alzheimer's. Around that time, I wrote a piece of music and put some words to it. It was called 'Giant' and the visual inspiration for the lyrics came from me picturing a young boy looking up at his father. I clearly remember looking up at my dad as a young kid…literally looking up at him, as he was a tall man, but also for me my father and my mother were like giants, figuratively, and even all those years later there was a sense of 'how can the world keep going on, without them?' They had held up the sky, after all. At least it seems that way, I'm sure, to many young kids all over the world. So the lyric dealt with this young boy sort of dealing with seeing this 'giant' falter: to see him lose his memories, to disease; to see him lose his wife. And to realize that, at some point, the boy is now the same height as the father, the 'giant.'”

Sepand adds, “We left the concept loose enough in order to have some wonderful collaboration again. Oscar and I were excited to approach Paul Whitehead to discuss the conceptual design. Paul took the idea and drew a proof, which was what you see on the final cover design. I remember that I took Paul's proof and made a large copy of it, shortly after, when we began recording - Billy Sherwood, Oscar and I - inspired by Paul's painting, used the paintings images and philosophy and developed songs and lyrics. Once we were done and needed more material, we met with Paul and hoped to inspire him with our sonic development. We would go back and forth several times inspiring one another and until the completion of the music and cover art.”

So what IS Giants?

You can find Greek Mythological figures such as Sisyphus, who inspired the song “Another Day.” Perception plays such a deafening role in our lives, in how we live, how we feel, how we see, think, and react and so on. Sisyphus was condemned for eternity by Zeus. He had to roll a giant boulder up a steep hill and before reaching the top, Zeus would enchant the stone to roll back down. If we look at this philosophically, Sisyphus, has really two options, be miserable for eternity or really enjoy the labor of love of rolling the rock up the hill, then watching it roll back down.

Besides Sisyphus, you can spot Atlas in the upper right corner who was condemned to hold the sky. Yet in the cover art one can see, with an all-knowing seer in the facade, which the sky and horizon is peeling off, all while Atlas is holding the peeled image while he is sinking. This was used as a lyric, also that is how Oscar felt about the demise of his father's image as a Giant and his health sinking him to the ground.

Oscar explains, “I hesitate to explain the 'plot' too much, but I think you could say that a pretty epic story is told here. Between the lyrics and Paul’s artwork and of course what the music conveys, I think a pretty complete picture is painted.”

This time around Billy Sherwood sat in the produce chair, and helped the band write and arrange the songs and lyrics. He even wrote a song for the album titled “The Common Thread.” Sepand recalls, “I love how Billy captured us. Some of our final takes were us rehearsing parts while the tracks were armed or at most when playing a first or second take. It is pure, instinctual and unabashed playing with minimal post production effects. It's raw. I think we have our bearing and confidence now to stand on our legs. I feel now that we know the rules and next round we can break them” Oscar adds, “I would say Billy was a lot more involved with the writing of this album, in general. He really brought a different type of energy to DBS, a more rock and roll energy.”

Sepand continues, “With 'In Extremis' we had the honor of playing with some of our icons, this time we kept it local with one exception, Colin. So Billy, whom we consider the third station, re-joined us. He recorded drums, vocals and bass. Durga McBroom who recorded her vocals on 'Witness the End of the World,' and of course - our cousin across the pond - Colin Moulding can be heard on 'Goes by Gravity.'”

Says Colin Moulding, “I was contacted by Billy Sherwood to sing on this track 'Goes by Gravity.' And because I was given a free reign, I re-wrote the lyrics somewhat to make the track more pointed...I think it turned out good in the end.” Durga adds, “Working on this project has been amazing. From Lebanon to the San Fernando Valley, we mixed our essences together. DBS's magical music, Billy's meticulous production, and my humble vocal offerings make a heady combo. I had a blast!”

In closing Sepand has this to impart, “Currently, we just finished scoring for a short film. We are discussing putting a live video/audio album together and performing in 2021. Live shows are now being discussed. Lastly, I am very excited to begin work on the fourth album, as well as a side project with Billy Sherwood.

Light Freedom Revival Releases Taylor Swift Prog Cover Featuring Billy Sherwood, Dylan Howe and Oliver Wakeman

Vancouver, Canada - Light Freedom Revival continues its musical journey by envisioning the unique single “Wildest Dreams”, a cover of the song with the same name by Taylor Swift.

Canadian singer John Vehadija is teaming up with Billy Sherwood, Oliver Wakeman and Dylan Howe to create an impressive take on modern pop by extending ideas using familiar prog sounds.

“I wanted an arrangement that would merge the Yes Universe with the Taylor Swift Universe, in the spirit of how Yes arranged America, but with the fun style of Taylor.” John explained, “I imagined this little LFR project like a chemical experiment and for this reason you will find as bonus tracks my versions of America and You Belong With Me combining to form a new melodic substance.”

The result is a seven minutes of fun prog experimentation which Vehadija hopes the audiences will enjoy.

The main single also debuts the guitar talents of the Argentinian guitar player Lino Gonzalez, from Cieloaberto who developed a style at times reminiscent of Steve Howe.

Light Freedom Revival Releases Second Album 'Truthonomy' Feat. Jamie Glaser, Billy Sherwood and Oliver Wakeman

VANCOUVER BC - John Vehadija has reunited with his cast of high class musicians for ‘Truthonomy’, the new album by Light Freedom Revival, which is released on July 3rd, 2018.

Along the bright sounds of Jamie Glaser’s acoustic guitar, and Vehadija’s ethereal vocals, Billy Sherwood returns for the rhythm section (Drums and Bass), as well as Oliver Wakeman (piano and keyboards) and Marisa Frantz (Harmony Vocals). Eric Gillette also joins in the project by providing additional electric guitar as well as mixing and mastering.

This talented team was called up by Vehadija once again to help him express his ideas in the form of a new concept album that offers new insights in his own spiritual journey and the science of Truthonomy.

John Vehadija believes in the existence of an absolute truth and he relied on his spiritual knowledge to create a story of soul awakening, for the seeker to rediscover Creation as a living being self aware of itself. Truthonomy is defined to represent a light truth economy in an open universe system which develops society with divine tunnel visions of how to consciously manifest one’s destiny.

“It’s hard to explain how this album came to be because it was totally unplanned, but it’s partially based on my travels to major capitals on different continents, and so I tried to create a unified world perception beyond the countries we live in to reach a standard of a new kind of planetary civilization. As I was writing the songs,” said Vehadija, “I realized it is a concept album of someone moving through many parallel negative timelines, constantly searching for the truth, trying to find the original one that had once been his real home, a place from where it’s safe to project into the future and reality will not anti respond to soul impulse calculations. I’m proud of the way it came out, it represents almost a new style of music, you can love it or hate it, but you cannot dismiss it. I felt it was my soul mission to express this for humanity. I didn’t want to create dogma, I wanted to create freedom and awareness. I wanted it to be like a self reflective mirror for the soul. In my opinion we should all deal with the truth as we understand it, and not just put it aside it and ignore it forever.”

Jamie Glaser had this to say about the record: “‘Truthonomy’ is one of the most interesting projects I have gotten a chance to work on in recent memory. John is great to make music with; he’s a super talented man and I appreciated his positivity; he always makes sure to write stories in both words and music that keep the listener spiritually uplifted and sonically on an adventure. He gave me a lot of freedom to create my parts and it was always a great and fun challenge.”

“As I finished all bases and drums I realized it all sounded very cool!” said Billy Sherwood “I like the general feel for all the music, it’s a bit more simplified and earthy than the last CD! It was a fun record to make and I’m happy with the way it came out.”

Oliver Wakeman tells us: “I’m glad John was happy with the keyboard performances I recorded for his new album... there were a couple of tracks, like ‘Emma’ and ‘Lies No More’, which in particular I really enjoyed playing on. Working on John’s album also gave me the opportunity to use some new keyboard sounds courtesy of IK Multimedia as well as recording using my Dexibell piano. It’s always fun to play on a project with talented musicians and John has gathered a bunch of great artists to bring his vision to life. I’m pleased he asked me to be a part of it.”

Marisa Frantz who did the harmonies for the whole album, shares her thoughts about the song “Truthonomy” which clocks at just over sixteen minutes: “It’s a truly epic song, captivating from beginning to end! It has so many beautiful melodies which were fun to put together. I had to do a variety of backgrounds including lyrical harmonies as well as other vocal textures and dynamics. I also wanted to give it space to breathe in spots. It was a pleasure working on this project for John.”

“I have never seen a more beautiful thought provoking cover” Vehadija tells us about the CD artwork provided again by the international visual artist Ed Unitsky. “I’m very happy about this new album and that John contacted me again to create the cover!” said Unitsky.
