First released in October 1975, Nektar’s “Recycled” was a conceptual work about the concerns of the impact of pollution and environmental damage to the earth and was recorded at the Chateau d’Herouville in France and at AIR Studios in London with sessions engineered by Geoff Emerick.

The album was also significant for the guest appearance of synthesizer player Larry Fast (of Synergy, who was later to work with Peter Gabriel). “Recycled” became another hit in Germany and the USA and spawned a long US and Canadian tour. The message of the album is arguably more pertinent than it was at the time of its original release and remains one of Nektar’s most highly regarded works.

This new 5CD edition features a newly remastered version of the album along with two rare single edits, a discarded early mix of the album by Geoff Emerick and an additional three CDs of live recordings from concerts at Massey Hall, Toronto and Calderone Concert Hall in Long Island on the band’s 1976 “Recycled” tour. The set also features an illustrated book and is a fine celebration of a progressive rock classic.

Emerson, Lake & Powell “The Complete Collection” 3 CD Box Available April 12, 2024

Spirit of Unicorn Music are proud to announce the release of Emerson, Lake & Powell “The Complete Collection,” a 3 CD box set which pays a fitting tribute to the power and creativity of this all-too-brief powerhouse collaboration.

In the early 1980’s, many of the established progressive rock artists were experiencing a rough ride. The musical landscape was changing. The arrival of punk rock and new wave meant that for many, the grand, creative indulgences which were de rigueur throughout the 1970’s, were fast becoming outdated. During a time of rapid change, bands had to adapt to survive. By 1979, Emerson Lake & Palmer, one of the biggest bands in the world during the 1970’s, were struggling and quietly called time on their once supergroup status band.

Having both explored solo careers, come 1984 Keith Emerson (The Nice, Emerson, Lake & Palmer) and Greg Lake (King Crimson, Emerson, Lake & Palmer) were considering their next move. Carl Palmer (PM, Asia, Emerson, Lake & Palmer) was busy enjoying enormous success with Asia. Thus, the legendary Cozy Powell (Rainbow, Whitesnake) stepped in to occupy the drum stool.

“When Cozy came in, he really dazzled us. We didn’t intend to put the group back together but he was such a good technical drummer and such a good performer, we thought it might be a good idea to go back out with a new version of the band,” Greg Lake told the LA Times back in 1986. And so, Emerson, Lake & Powell came to pass.

This 3 CD box set includes the band’s one and only studio release: “Emerson, Lake & Powell,” featuring 3 bonus tracks. Also included is their live album, “Live In Concert” and a CD of rehearsals, “The Sprocket Sessions,” which has previously only been released as a bootleg.

All material included in the box set has been re-mastered by renowned engineer Andy Pearce. It is also presented with an enhanced booklet with sleeve notes written by Prog Magazine editor, Jerry Ewing.

If you are a fan of ELP, you cannot afford to have this part of Emerson and Lake’s history missing from your collection.

Recorded in Somerset utilizing a mobile studio and at Olympic Studios in the Summer of 1973, “It’s Only A Movie” was the final studio album by Family featuring yet another line-up of the band. Vocalist Roger Chapman, guitarist John “Charlie” Whitney and drummer Rob Townsend recruited new members Tony Ashton (keyboards) and Jim Cregan (bass, guitar). Released in September 1973, the album closed a chapter on one Britain’s most unique bands.

This new two-disc edition of this classic album has been newly remastered from the master tapes and also includes 19 bonus tracks drawn from singles and previously unreleased studio out-takes along with a bonus CD of BBC Radio sessions from 1973, including a superb In Concert performance and a final Session for the Top Gear show. This release also features an illustrated booklet with a new essay and is a fitting tribute to a much-treasured band.

Previously known as The In Crowd, Tomorrow (Keith West, Steve Howe and John ‘Twink’ Alder) came to fame in the 1967 film Smashing Time. During that year the band released two singles, one of which, “My White Bicycle” was inspired by the Dutch Provos, an anarchist group in Amsterdam which instituted a community bicycle program. The follow-up single “Revolution”, according to Joe Boyd’s book “White Bicycles – Making Music” in the 1960s asserted the fact that the band’s performance of the song at the UFO Club was the apotheosis of the 60s UK underground.

This re-issue overseen by Steve Howe, contains new artwork by long-time Yes collaborators The Gottlieb Brothers with new notes by Steve Howe and John ‘Twink’ Alder, and has been remastered from the original mono mixes.

Hugh Hopper of Soft Machine’s Legacy Enhanced With the Re-Release of “Jazzloops” and “The Stolen Hour”, Featuring his Soft Machine Bandmates – OUT NOW!

Hugh Hopper was a key member of Soft Machine and an accomplished solo artist but passed away in 2009. His legacy is now being celebrated with the re-release of two of his solo albums which had been hard to find until now.

Both “Jazzloops” and “The Stolen Hour” feature his Soft Machine bandmates guesting throughout including: Robert Wyatt, Elton Dean and John Marshall.  Other guests include Gong alumni Didier Malherbe and French guitarist Patrice Meyer.

This double disc re-mastered set includes “The Stolen Hour’s” comic, created by Matt Howarth, in the booklet and has been endorsed by Christine Janet Hopper, Hugh Hopper’s wife, who also plays trumpet on some of the recordings.

It was also the first Be Bop album to be co-produced by Nelson and John Leckie. An album of immense musical inventiveness and creativity, “Sunburst Finish” was one of the finest albums of its era, a perfect cohesion of ten classic songs written by Bill Nelson (featuring his highly imaginative guitar playing) and a stylized and striking artwork package.

Re-releases of Jon Symon’s Warlock Two Studio Albums, Recorded with Members of the German Krautrock Legends JANE, “Memories of a White Magician” and “Lady Macbeth” OUT NOW!

John Symon was known as a one-man band called Rasputin and he toured throughout Germany and Austria and also appeared on several TV shows.  He released a couple of singles before, in the 80s, becoming better known for his Warlock musical works.

These (re-mastered) editions are the first time the albums have been available on CD and digitally.

The “Memories of a White Magician” studio album was recorded twice, once in 1981 and then again in 1983 and this edition includes both versions of the album. The highlight of the 1983 album’s release was the performance in front of 7000 people in Berlin’s International Congress Centre.

“Lady Macbeth” was originally released a year after the first album and this edition features the 1984 non-album single of the title track which now appears in its rightful place in the score.

Joining Jon Symon on the releases are members of the German band JANE including Peter Panka, Werner Nadolny, Detlef Klamann, Charly Maucher, Edu Wahlmann and Bernd Klamann.

One of the Most Sought-After Krautrock Albums, Twogether’s 'A Couple of Times,' Has Been Re-Released on CD and Digital Platforms – OUT NOW!

Twogether were a German drums and keyboards rock duo from Düsseldorf, formed in 1973 out of musicians previously in The Crew and Blue Squad. They never did many gigs and only existed for a short while after completing their sole self-produced album.

A Couple of Times is a much sought-after rarity among collectors and was released in 1973 and has been unavailable on CD for over a decade.

This 2022 remaster features new liner notes by surviving member Reinhard Fischer and has also been approved by the Klaus Bangert Estate. Two bonus tracks from a non-album single (their only other release) have also been included.

Surviving Twogether member Reinhard Fischer said “We didn't play together long enough for something to develop from it but from the mixture of our individual ideas about music this album came into being, a bit of everything and many opposites.”

Lodestone’s Sole Album, 'Time Flies' from 1971, has been Released on CD and Digitally for the First Time, Taking its Place as a Founder of the Progressive Rock Concept Album Genre – OUT NOW!

Lodestone’s eponymous and sole studio album, Time Flies, has been released on CD and Digitally for the first time. The album was one of the earliest progressive rock concept albums of the genre.

It originally came out on Philips Germany in 1971, but it was only released in three European countries at the time.

The CD comes with a booklet featuring new liner notes on the making of the album, along with a science fiction short story. The premise of the album’s story is: “The astronauts’ flight to a new star took 300 years. The four space adventurers finally awake to discover how time flies… and how it can play some very cruel tricks…”

The band features ex-members of The Cymbaline, In- Sect, The Flies and Infinity. The release has been re-mastered by band member Gerry Morris and approved by original producer Tony Atkins.

Lodestone’s guitarist Gerry Morris said: “The Lodestone album’s re-release is such wonderful news. The album is already popular with avid collectors, but this is the first time is been on CD or available digitally. We welcome it back after 50 years. It’s amazing how time flies!”

The album’s producer Tony Atkins added: “The Lodestone album Time Flies was one of my first productions. I am very proud of how, in 1971, it broke boundaries in the then-new progressive rock genre. It's great to have it available again in new formats.”

In 1969, Twink recorded Think Pink – widely regarded as a milestone in British psychedelia, with the production work of friend Mick Farren, and the active participation of musicians like Paul Rudolph, Steve Peregrin Took (T Rex) and others. The individual versions will be available on September 16, 2022 with the Deluxe version available from October 7, 2022. This is the first time the album will have been available on 5.1 Surround Sound.   'Animals' is the tenth studio album by Pink Floyd, originally released in January 1977. It was recorded at the band's Britannia Row Studios in London throughout 1976 and early 1977, and was produced by the band themselves. The successful album peaked at number 2 in the UK and number 3 in the US, and is considered as one of the band's best works. The album was recorded by band members David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Roger Waters and Richard Wright.   'Animals 2018 Remix' will be released on CD, LP (with gatefold artwork), Blu-ray, SACD and Deluxe Gatefold formats. The 32-page booklet features rarely seen behind the scenes photographs of the album sleeve shoot along with live images and memorabilia. The album artwork has been reimagined for this release.   'Animals' is a concept album, focusing on the social-political conditions of mid-1970s Britain, and was a change from the style of the band’s earlier work. The album was developed from a collection of unrelated songs into a concept which describes the apparent social and moral decay of society, likening the human condition to that of animals. Taking inspiration from George Orwell’s Animal Farm, the album depicts the different classes of people as animals with pigs being at the top of the social chain, dropping down to the sheep as the mindless herd following what they are told, with dogs as the business bosses getting fat on the money and power they hold over the other. Although it’s been a long time since 1977, the narrative of the album still resonates today as our social and economic situation mirrors that of the time.   The album's iconic cover shows an inflatable pig (now known as Algie) floating between two chimneys of the Battersea Power Station, conceived by Roger Waters, and designed by long-time collaborator Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis Studios. For this new release, the artwork has been re-designed for the modern era by Storm’s Hipgnosis partner Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell. Taking new shots of the building as it appeared during the recent conversion work, Po experimented with new angles and produce some striking new takes on the classic original. The tracks selected are ‘heavy on the rhythm section’ featuring Linda Cushma on Chapman Stick and Tim Alexander on drums. After hearing tracks from the POETICA album, Emmett had once mentioned that it was the way he intended the Chapman Stick to be played & heard. This is for you, Emmett.

Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of a new remastered and expanded edition of the 1982 solo album by Jon Anderson, “Animation.”

The album was recorded throughout 1981 during Jon’s first hiatus from YES, with whom he had become an internationally known vocalist and songwriter and followed on from his acclaimed albums “Olias of Sunhillow” and “Song of Seven.” Working with co-producer Neil Kernon and a host of talented musicians such as DAVID SANCIOUS, CLEM CLEMPSON, SIMON PHILLIPS, STEFANO CERRI, CHRIS RAINBOW and JACK BRUCE and DAVE LAWSON, Anderson created an album that absorbed the latest electronic instrument technology whilst retaining an ambitious and progressive edge.

“Animation” was a UK top fifty hit upon its release by Polydor Records in June 1982 and spawned two UK singles, of which the non-album track “Spider” acted, strangely, as a B-side to both releases.

“Animation” has since become a favorite album among aficionados of Jon Anderson’s work. This Esoteric Recordings edition has been newly re-mastered from the original Polydor Records master tapes and is expanded to include the single B-side track “Spider” and the rare demo “The Spell.” The original album artwork is restored in a digipak. The booklet also features a new essay with an exclusive interview with Jon Anderson.

All material on this set will also feature on the forthcoming “Complete 1969 Sessions” – the eighth boxed set in the series documenting King Crimson's studio & live recordings from 1969 onwards.

The Alternate album appears, quite deliberately, in slightly different track-listings on the Blu-Ray & CD (& on the accompanying double vinyl set). The aim on the Blu-Ray was to provide a fully sequenced listen that closely resembled the original album running order. This was extended on the CD, gathering many of the new mixes on one disc & revised again to make for a satisfying listen on vinyl.

In common with all other King Crimson studio albums in the format, the 5.1 mixes are being made available in this affordable set rather than being held over exclusively for larger expensive boxed sets, a practice that limits the availability of the music in multichannel audio to the detriment of artists and fans alike.

In the 50 years since its release “In The Court of the Crimson King” has never been out of print or unavailable in any of the world's main music markets & continues to enjoy consistently high sales.
